1. Preventing Falls:
- Use window guards on windows
- Never leave your baby alone on beds, sofas, in the chair, on the table, or in any other spot from which she / he can fall
- Install safety gates to block stairways at bottom and top.
- Don't use walkers for infants. It can cause major injuries.
2. Forbidden Territory:
- Keep knives, breakables, heavy pans, and other dangerous items locked up or out of reach.
- Control access to unsafe areas with safety gates, door locks and knob covers.
- put locks or latches on accessible cupboards and drawers that house unsafe items.
3.Toys:
- Should be securely put together and in good condition.
- Should have no button, eyes, beads, ribbons, or other pieces that your baby could pull off and choke on.
- Should not be too heavy (toy would harm your baby if it falls on him / her).
4.Doors:
- Use door stopper to protect your baby's finger.
5.Electrical socket, cords and appliances:
- Put safety plugs or outlets covers in unused sockets.
- Hide electrical cords behind furniture.
6.Preventing Suffocation:
- Don't give children whole grams/ nuts(Eg. Groundnuts, cashew nuts etc.,). Don't leave arecanut within the reach of children.
- Don't leave water filled buckets within the reach of children. Always empty the buckets and leave them upside down.
- Keep bathroom doors closed securely at all times.
- Don't leave plastic bags within reach of children.
7.Preventing Burns:
- Avoid carrying hot food or drink and your baby at the same time.
- Keep hot foods and drinks away from edge of tables and counters.
- Don't hold your baby while cooking at the stove.
- Turn pan handles toward the back of the stove.
- Anytime, a child has scalds/burns, wash the area well and consult your Pediatrician.
8.Poison Proofing:
- Survey your house and move kerosene, cleaning agents, medicines, vitamins, toiletries, mothballs and other potentially toxic items out of reach or lock them up.
- Don't use dung powder coloring agent.
